This letter is to encourage everyone out there today. Hundreds of people every year kill themselves over mean comments people write about them on social media. Social media can be a beautiful place but it can always be a cruel place. My students sometimes come up to me and cry while I’m at my desk grading their papers because they are tired of people making memes about them and gossiping about them on social media. I always have to remind them of who they are. And they have to stop looking for validation in other people. People are always going to talk about you, they’ve talked about you before the day you were born, and they are definitely going to talk about you when they die. You have to be confident enough in yourself that you can hold your head up regardless about what others say. You have to take your power back, you have to take your strength back, you have to take your voice back, you have to take your identity back. You have to get to the point in your life that when people talk about you, just laugh and thank God. Love yourself enough to still be kind and go on with your day. Don’t allow anyone to take away the love and joy you have in your heart because someone in the future needs all the love that you have to pick themselves up.And if you find yourself stressed and overwhelmed about what people are saying about you on social media, you have the power to log off for awhile, unfriend or block. Don’t ever allow people to make you feel powerless. Don’t allow people to cause you to harm yourself or take your life. God has invested too much into you. I hope this encouraged someone today because I’m tired of seeing the young and seasoned die over comments, followers and “likes”. Let’s continue to build each other up in love and encourage everyone that we see because you never know what that person is dealing with inside. Your encouragement can go a long way and possibly save a life.
